The MP joined locals to see for herself how the popular village pub was managing since reopening its doors on July 4 weekend.

Mrs Caulfield said: “The Bull is a great pub that is popular with locals and visitors alike so I am pleased to be able to see them open again, and with many people keen to show them their support.

“The Bull has introduced so many covid-secure features that will help keep staff and customers safe.

“I understand that some people may still be cautious about going to places like pubs and restaurants but they really have all worked hard to put in lots of extra measures to keep people safe while still offering the same excellent experience. “Many of these businesses will be struggling after months with little or no income, so if you can please do support them.”

New safety measures at The Bull include ten sanitiser points, removal of bar stools, toilet cleaning every 30 minutes, disposable or downloadable menus, perspex screens and a reduced capacity.

Pubs, bars and restaurants were given the green light to reopen from Saturday, July 4, with covid-secure measures in place to protect staff and customers.

During her visit at The Bull, Mrs Caulfield discussed government support for businesses and reopening post-lockdown.

She commented: “The government has been able to provide support for businesses, including pubs, throughout the pandemic including business interruption loans, grants, VAT deferrals, relaxation of rules around destruction of unsellable beers, and access to the jobs retention scheme paying 80 per cent of staff wages.

“I have been working hard throughout the crisis to ensure that local businesses have access to these schemes and have worked closely with those who have contacted her with issues to ensure they are supported.”
