Mid Sussex roadshow looks at county council cash priorities

West Sussex County Council is to hold a series of roadshows to explain to residents and communities the challenges it will face and its priorities for the next four years.

The Government’s spending review will mean the County Council losing an estimated £140 million in central government support.

Seven events will take place across the county before regular meetings of County Local Committees (CLCs).

County Council Leader Louise Goldsmith said: “We are very keen to ensure that residents have an appreciation of the scale of the savings that need to be made over the next four years, and the reasons for them.

“The events will also be a chance for us to explain what we see as the priorities for West Sussex over the coming years and get feedback from residents.

“I hope that people will take this opportunity to come along and talk with us because I am a firm believer in engaging with communities and making sure they are informed every step of the way.

“I want to stress that no final decisions have been taken about any services at this stage. However, we are building a clear picture of our priorities, and welcome the opportunity to hear the views of residents on them.”

Final decisions on the Council’s budget for 2014/15 will be taken in February.

The local roadshow will be on November 26 at Downlands Community School, Hassocks, at 5.30pm before a meeting of the South Mid Sussex CLC.

The roadshow events will all end by 7pm when the CLC meetings are due to start.
