Nicola Bell, Highways England South East regional director said: “The A23 experienced severe congestion during the first closure last weekend. Many people decided to take a trip to the coast due to the sunny weather, and this, together with our roadworks, resulted in severe congestion, particularly in the evening when drivers were heading home. We apologise to any drivers who got caught up in it.

“This weekend’s closure of the A23 at the Bolney flyover is the second of two planned for essential maintenance. There will be a longer diversion route for northbound traffic and we advise drivers to consider an alternative route if they are planning to use the A23. There’s never a good time to close a major route, and we advise people to check before they travel, plan-ahead, and check traffic conditions on our website and Twitter whichever route they choose to take.”

Clearly signed diversions will be in place throughout the work and there will be no access to the A23 northbound from the A2300 roundabout with Hickstead Lane.

Residents and businesses only will be able to access their properties during the overnight northbound closures to and from the manned closure point on the A2300 roundabout with Hickstead Lane.
