Stamping out scams focus of West Sussex awareness month

West Sussex County Council is supporting Scams Awareness Month, which is running nationally throughout July, by holding a number of workshops across the county.

Trading Standards officers will be on hand to provide information on scams and offer tips on how residents can avoid fraudulent activity.

Central and South Sussex Citizens Advice Bureau will also be offering its support to residents on how to resist potential scammers.

David Barling (Con, Bramber Castle), WSCC’s cabinet member for residents’ services with responsibility for Trading Standards, said: “It’s so important that we raise awareness of this campaign as scammers target the most vulnerable members of our society, in a variety of ways.

“Scammers employ very clever and persuasive tactics on their victims so it is important residents are made aware and are advised who they can contact to report fraud or for help if they are a victim of scamming.”

Anyone who is concerned about the sale of counterfeit goods or possible scams is asked to contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service for advice on 03454 040506.
