Pyecombe crash driver dies

A 95-year-old driver who was seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon (January 23) when his car left the road at Pyecombe and collided with a road sign, has now sadly died.

Police say the man, who lived in nearby Saddlescombe, was driving a green Toyota Starlet that appears to have spun in the carriageway as he left the northbound A23 on to the A281 West Road by the Texaco garage at about 4.10pm, and then left the road, hitting a large street sign.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries and died there this morning (Friday 1 February).

PC Doug Park of the Sussex Road Policing Unit said; “Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call us on 101 quoting serial 1026 of 23/01, or e-mail [email protected].”
