Debbie Mann said the news was ‘very positive’ and added: “Crazy having such a large population as Mid Sussex and no local provision for 16-18 year olds other than St Paul’s or the trade colleges.”

However, there were some residents who expressed their reservations.

Carol Garvey said: “Trouble is it says will look into bringing it back, that’s not a definite.”

Jackie Sutton also said: “Great news, this facility is vital for our young people. I just hope agreement is reached quickly to reopen the college. Thank you to all involved in trying to make this happen.”

Louise Bramble said she did not feel a college was ‘a lot to ask for’ and added: “Not looking for anything out there or specialised, just a decent quality post-16 education covering the most popular options.”

Jonathan Goodwin added: “Let’s hope that this happens soon. So poor students in Mid Sussex can have the education they deserve.

“Sad that so many former brilliant staff was sacrificed in the years leading to the closure.

“Let’s hope the next generation of leaders has the same vision which the teaching staff had when I was there to offer an inspiring high quality of education to Mid Sussex young people.”
