Carol Langridge, who works at Sainsbury’s in Haywards Heath, took part in the St Peter & St James Hospice Star Walk for the fourth time last month, raising over £7,000 for the charity.

By collecting sponsorship at her checkout, an initiative supported by the supermarket, Carol and her customers were able to raise £7,846.

Through it’s inpatient ward, wellbeing services, and a specialist community nursing team, St Peter & St James Hospice provides hospice care to local families.

The Star Walk is its flagship fundraising event which this year welcomed 490 members of the local community to walk round Wakehurst botanic gardens at sunset.

Each walker was also given the opportunity to lay a lantern in memory of loved ones.

Carol took part with her friend, Abi and has been involved in fundraising since her neighbour, Joe, was looked after in his final days at St Peter and St James Hospice.
