Scam warning: Caller claims to be from Haywards Heath Town Council

A scam warning has been issued after residents were called by someone posing as a member of Haywards Heath Town Council.

The caller has claimed they can offer a £5000 compensation for a member of the household suffering an accident, and goes on to ask for personal details.

A spokesman for Haywards Heath Town Council said: “Unfortunately we have had two calls directly to us this morning from concerned residents. We have reassured them and advised the individuals to contact the Police on the 101 phone number.

The town council posted the following warning on its website.

“SCAM WARNING: It has been brought to our attention that FRAUDULENT telephone calls are being made to residents of Haywards Heath from a number with the area code: 01392. The caller claims to be phoning from Haywards Heath Town Council and offers financial settlement for an accident.

“PLEASE BE AWARE - THIS IS A SCAM – DO NOT PROVIDE ANY OF YOUR DETAILS (BANK ACCOUNTS OR OTHERWISE) – YOU ARE ADVISED TO REPORT THE CALL TO THE NON EMERGENCY SUSSEX POLICE NUMBER on 101.”
