Calling All Darts/Pool/Snooker Players: Scaynes Hill Club is currently registering teams for the winter leagues of all the above sports. Please drop into the club or call Sue on 01444 831027 if you fancy playing for a team. Darts is played on Monday, Snooker on Wednesday and Pool on Thursday.
Congratulations: Last Wednesday 15 July I was lucky enough to have been present at St Augustine’s Church for the Collation of Lisa Barnett as Vicar of Scaynes Hill. It was a very happy occasion and a fascinating ceremony steeped in tradition and symbolism. Well done to Lisa and welcome again to the village!
Fruit & Veg Share: The Fruit & Veg Share scheme, which allows those with excess produce to leave it for others to collect, is back again for a third year. Look out for the Share stall with the green and white stripy awning, which will be on the grass in front of the Church every Tuesday until September. Leave or take produce with no money changing hands!
Knockout Pool Competition: It’s that time of year again, the Annual Knockout Pool Competition, held at Scaynes Hill Social Club. Now in its 10th year the shield has only ever been won by three people. Maybe it is your turn to win but you have to be in it to win it! It costs just £2.00 to enter the competition and the sign up form is on the noticeboard at the club. The draw for the first round will take place on Friday 24 July at 9.00pm. There are only 32 places available so signup quick to avoid disappointment.
St Augustine’s Church News: Youth News: Apologies ...This is a message related to Christmas! Yes, Emily knows it’s only (July), but Emily has a plan which needs plenty of prep time and which needs your help!! The Church would like to have a knitted nativity set which will be used in Advent (just over 4 months away). Emily is not a knitter but is hoping some of the community are. (Actually, she says she can knit a scarf but that’s all she can knit!). Could you help knit 24 sheep, several shepherds, Mary and Joseph and 3 kings? Would you be willing to donate either some money to buy wool or donate some wool? Please speak to Emily 07825235907 or email her at email@example.com Sunday Children’s Programme Spring 2015: For year 6 - 18yr olds on a Friday night we have a youth club that meets 7:30-9pm in the church Annexe, term time only. For more information on any of our children’s & youth work contact the youth and children’s worker Emily on 07825 235907 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Watch Out: There has been some very suspicious goings on in the village recently. Last week two people tried to steal exercise mats from outside Jigsaw Nursery. This was done in broad daylight. When they were stopped they then went on to steal aluminium cans from outside the social club after having first forced the ‘shed’ open. The monetary value of these cans is so small so it was a foolish risk to take. However, that wasn’t the end of it and the same couple returned the next two nights in a white transit van. Nothing was taken on either of these occasions because they turned around and drove off when they were spotted. We now have the registration number of the van and have reported it to the police but be vigilant because it looks like they are casing the whole village. The couple driving the car are probably in their 60’s and the man has a beard.
