Costells Wood: Many of you are probably already aware that 12 acres of Costells Wood were bought last year by a local couple whose main aim is to preserve the wood and protect it from future development. If you are interested in learning more about their plans they have set up a facebook page called '˜Costells Wood' and a webpage http://www.costellswood.co.uk

Dementia UK: This is a special push for an event being run by Bridget Pepper in aid of Dementia UK. Bridget has organized a fundraising quiz which will be held this Saturday 20 August. The quiz will start at 8.00pm and tickets can be purchased on the night. The price of the tickets is just £3.00 per person and all the money raised will go to Dementia Uk. The quiz will be held in the clubhouse down Church Road opposite the common. Look for the sign saying ‘Jigsaw Independent Day Nursery’ and follow the path. It’s very dark so take a torch.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity: The staff at The Inn on The Green and The Queen’s Head (sister pub) are coming together to raise awareness and money for Great Ormond Street.

Housing Plans: Outline Planning has been lodged by Greenplan Designer Homes Ltd for 51 new dwelllings (30% affordable) on the Barns Cottage site behind the Inn on the Green (see plan). The full application and all associated documents can be viewed on the MSDC online Planning Register (enter DM/16/3119 in the Search box) where you can also make comments by the deadline of 26th August. I know it sounds obvious but don’t forget to write in if you are in support of the plans. Most comments so far seem to be negative but there are a lot serious positives that can come out of new houses being built in the village. Apart from the 30% low cost housing, it will ensure the future security of our primary school as well as supporting our local businesses and perhaps even in the long term improve the existing amenities. It is just as important to show support as well as show objections.

Inn on the Green: The next fantastic Inn on the Green quiz night is on Wednesday 7 September. The quiz starts at 8.00pm and the cost is just £2.00 per player. Exciting news is coming from the pub that they are turning into a Steak and Grill Restaurant. I shall let you all know when I hear more.
