Snow: blood donor sessions cancelled

SNOW and freezing conditions have led to the cancellation of today’s blood donor sessions at Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill.

Dozens of sessions across the south east have been cancelled, threatening the vital supply of blood to hospitals.

The next nearest session to Mid Sussex is at Premier Hall, Brighton Racecourse on Wednesday, December 8 from 2pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 8pm.

Jon Latham, Assistant Director of Blood Donation services for the NHS said: “We rely on our volunteer donors to help us maintain the vital supply of blood to hospitals. We need to make sure that we make the most of the sessions that are going ahead to try to make up for the losses in other areas.

“The changeable weather patterns mean that it is not always easy to know in advance when a blood donor session may have to be cancelled. If you are in doubt about your local session, you can call the Donor Helpline on 0300 123 23 23 for the latest information about giving blood in your area.
