Snow: one commuter’s tale

COMMUTERS were advised not to travel to work as the Southern network virtually ground to a halt today.

The London to Brighton mainline was suspended for most of the day but Southern were operating a revised timetable with limited services to Lewes and the East of the county.

Commuter Will Sudlow from London Lane, Cuckfield who works in London’s West End said he was forced to take the day off and had to miss a launch event for a show.

He said: “It’s been impossible to get to work the last two days.

“No trains running from Haywards Heath to London and after reports of the commuters stuck on trains over night, the thought of getting stuck is enough to put anyone off.

“Today I was supposed to be holding an event at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly for the launch of one of our west end shows.

“Fortunately my colleagues have stepped in to save the day, but the question is can our guests make it in to see the show!”

Despite the artic conditions, Will says Cuckfield residents are embracing the weather, seeing children taking to their sledges and more unusually snow boards.

But it wasn’t all fun and games – the weather proved to much for one breakdown recovery truck which broke down just outside his house.

He added: “Cuckfield is beautiful and the snow really brings out the community spirit.

“I’ve seen so many sledges this morning and one chap had a snow board!

“I will now be spending a very cold morning shifting snow off my driveway and taking pictures for next years Christmas card. You know it’s bad when a breakdown truck has broken down outside your house!”
