South-East second worst area for car accidents

The South-East is the second worst area for car accidents, beaten only by London, according to government statistics.

Car Dealer Reviews (www.cardealerreviews.co.uk) researched car accidents across the UK, using statistics for 2013.

The South-East had 18 per cent of accidents with London just one per cent above.

The North-East is apparently the safest place to drive with just four per cent of accidents.

Within the South-East statistics, West Sussex is the fourth worst area (eight per cent) and East Sussex sixth (six per cent).

Kent is by far the worst area with 19 per cent.

The car models most involved in accidents are the Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 206, Renault Clio and VW Golf.

The drivers most at risk of being involved in an accident are in the age range of 30-49.

The most common causes for accidents are classed as driver mistakes (41 per cent) and unusual behaviour second (eg driving too slow, reckless driving).
