Sport Relief is held every two years alternating with Comic Relief, which has been raising money for deserving projects in the UK and abroad since 1985.

In the past two years, donations have enabled 189,000 children get an education, 16,500 people get the support they need to improve their mental health and it has supported 23 projects that support people living with dementia.

Among the organisations helped in Sussex are the Sussex Central YMCA, which received £143,763 in 2013, 4Sight West Sussex Association for the Blind, which received £9,067 last year and the charity Headway, which offers free counselling to people who have suffered head injuries. They received a grant of £846 last year.
