Athletes are encouraged to sign up soon for the races managed by Freedom Leisure as the event filled up before race day last year.

Paul Hedger, race director at Hedgehogtri Events, said: “This event has become very popular in a small number of years, it is a chance for many new people to try out a triathlon.”

Now in it’s third year, the event will start at 7am for the slower sprint and relay competitors followed by quicker triathletes later in the day.

Mr Hedger added: “Many have seen the achievements in the Olympic Games and World Championships and now want to be part of this great sport.”

Volunteers are needed to help run the event, and each will receive a food and drink voucher, a t-shirt, expenses and free entry into another Hedgehogtri sprint event later in the year.

Last year more than two hundred took part.

The cycle heads towards Ansty and returns on Bolnore Road, whilst the swim is a snake style course with individuals starting 25 seconds apart.
