Sussex NHS Trust joins in Worlds Aids Day events today

The trust’s HIV Specialist service will be part of the Brighton & Hove Memorial candlelit vigil at the New Steine Gardens in Kemp Town (6pm to 7pm).

There will be a special event at Crawley Hospital tomorrow which includes presentations from HIV nurse specialists who will be discussing the issues surrounding HIV stigma and discrimination.

The group offers specialist HIV community nursing across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, offering support, home visits and health checks for adults living with HIV.

Speaking about the importance of this year’s World Aids Day, Anna Bamford, clinical services manager HIV, SCNT, said: “World Aids Day is important as it reminds the public and government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

“Stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with HIV and this is part of our ongoing work with people we support locally.

“As usual, our staff will be available at some local events to answer questions and provide further information.”
