Teens’ project gives Burgess Hill day centre a facelift

The Burgess Hill Prince’s Trust team is helping save a disability day centre from closure by raising funds to have it refurbished.

The group has bought materials to paint the therapy room and sort the garden out at the Burnside Centre which is under threat due to its dilapidated state.

The centre in Victoria Road is for adults with learning difficulties. As part of their Princes Trust community project they are clearing the garden so the service users can access and enjoy it and decorating a therapy room to make it cheerful and inviting.

They hope by putting funds they raised, their time and energy into sprucing up the centre, it will encourage others to raise funds to support it and keep it going.

The programme is a 12 week course designed to help unemployed young people develop teamwork and employability skills and to progress onto work, an apprenticeship or further education.

Team member Rhys Poole, 17, said: “I can’t believe we have achieved so much in such a short time, but I wish we had more time as the whole place needs more work and I’d like us to help more.

“I hope what we have done will encourage other people to help and the authorities to keep it open.”
