Tesco Mum of the Year thanks David Cameron for his support

The campaigner, who set up the Group Strep B Support charity after losing a child to the infection, was invited to Downing Street to mark International Women’s Day, last Saturday.

Jane was chosen as one of only 150 women from the whole country, singled out for her tireless campaigning to improve medical practice around Group B Strep Infection.

However, it was not the first time the local campaigner had met the PM. Jane said: “I first met David about ten years ago and he was incredibly supportive and became involved with the charity because a couple of his constituents lost a baby as a result of Group B Strep.

“He took me to see the Minister, did petitions and all kinds of stuff - he was fabulous.”

Since then Jane’s charity has grown substantially and she was made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list and more recently won Tesco Mum of the Year.

Jane took the opportunity to thank Mr Cameron for helping her on her path to success.

“He was instrumental in starting the charity’s campaign with parliamentarians, so I thanked him for his involvement and his interest.”

She also said she still needed his support to which he grinned, but pledged an aide would be in touch.

Another highlight of the reception for Jane was meeting Samantha Cameron and conversing with Theresa May, the Government’s Home Secretary.
