A charity has been told it can’t use a historic building in Haywards Heath for a music event.
Tim French MBE (pictured right at the venue) and charity It’s Magic brought musical trio, Wilbury Jam to The Priory in October.
It was the first time the Grade II listed building in Syresham Gardens was used for about two years.
It’s Magic has planned to use the building again for a concert featuring Mia Coleman, taking place on Sunday December 20.
But organisers have been told they won’t be able to use the space and have moved the venue to St Wilfrid’s Church in Haywards Heath.
“They said they feel they can’t offer this facility at the moment,” said Tim French.
“I’m disappointed because so many people showed an interest in the venue. The atmosphere at Wilbury Jam was excellent. It was a good concert.”
Mr French worked with other organisations in the town to ‘bring The Priory up to scratch’.
“There was a lot of effort which went in to clean it up ready for the public.”
Mr French said they replaced the door and fire exit signs – and nearly even bought chairs for the venue. Speaking before the first concert Mr French said he wanted to bring The Priory ‘back to life’.
He thanked St Wilfrid’s Church for stepping in to help.
Founded by the English Convent at Bruges in 1896, the main chapel building was completed in 1897.The space still retains many of its original features including stained-glass windows, wall murals and the choristers’ chancel. Chef Gordon Ramsey took over the building for a short while and it has also been used as a tapas bar,
Tim French MBE and It’s Magic presents Mia Coleman and friends at St Wilfrid’s Church, Haywards Heath on Saturday, December 20 from 7pm.
Tickets are £15 from Baldwins.
