International artists are set to perform at a new two-day music festival at an area in Hickstead.

Pop star Jessie J and chart-conquering band The Vamps will be playing at Boomerang, at Hickstead International Arena in September.

Lizzie Bunn, Hickstead director said: “We are very excited to announce the launch of Boomerang Hickstead, our first major live music event.

“It’s set to be a superb weekend of music and the huge International Arena will provide a wonderful, open-air concert venue.

“Hickstead has played host to nearly all of the world’s best horse and rider combinations since it first opened in 1960. Now, we’re looking forward to seeing some of the world’s best music acts follow in their footsteps by performing in the International Arena.”

The event is named after Boomerang, Eddie Macken’s famous horse who won the Hickstead Derby a record four consecutive times from 1976 to 1979. Every June, the winner of the derby is presented with the Boomerang Trophy.

The performers have been picked by programmer John Empson, who has worked with artists such as Elton John and Oasis.

John Empson said: “I’m delighted to be working with the team at Hickstead on their inaugural music event.

“The combination of the unique venue and world class headliners is sure to establish ‘Boomerang’ as an essential date on the live music calendar.”

As well as music, there will also be gourmet pop up restaurants, street food caterers and a sample of alternative entertainment away from the main stage.

British singer songwriter Jessie J will be performing on September 13.

Jessie J will perform songs from her three albums with favourites like, Price Tag, Do it like a Dude, and, most recently, her collaboration with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj on her top ten hit Bang Bang.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to playing with The Vamps on the at the Hickstead International Arena.

“It will be amazing to end the summer headlining at this great new event.”

The Vamps, four teenage musicians who started playing covers online before getting a record deal will also be headlining.

“We’re super-excited to be co-headlining the first ever Boomerang event at Hickstead with Jessie J and can’t wait for our fans to see us in this wicked setting,” said the group.

Hickstead attracts thousands of visitors to show jumping events every year.

The event takes place at Hickstead International Arena on September 12 and 13. Tickets are available from from April 20.
