Large-scale diesel spillage on major Crawley road

A major road in Crawley will be closed 'for some time' following a 'large-scale diesel spillage' from an accident involving a tanker.

The accident happened on Wednesday afternoon between the A2011 Crawley Avenue and junction 10 roundabout of the M23

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said: "The eastbound carriageway of the A2011 in Crawley is currently closed and will remain so for some time following a large-scale diesel spillage from a tanker accident.

“About 2,500sqm of road surface was impacted in the spillage on Wednesday afternoon.

"Remedial works are being organised for as soon as possible but there are currently no confirmed timescales: the damage is such that the surface will have to be taken off and replaced.

“Local diversions are in place.”
