The company’s website shows there is ‘major disruption’ on most lines in the Southern Trains Sussex network.

“Until further notice trains will not stop at Battersea Park, Passengers to use Queens Town Road Battersea.”

Trains are also being delayed across the network due to a derailment yesterday afternoon. A rail replacement service was running between Brighton and Preston Park and passengers travelling down to Horsham and the Arun Valley line are also experiencing disruption.

However at lunchtime Southern expected rail services to resume ‘any moment’.

A Southern spokesman said: “The latest is that the derailed train is now back in the depot and the cable problems have been rectified. We expect services to resume any moment.

“There will be residual delays once we get trains running again as some trains and train crews will be out of position, but we hope to return to a normal service fairly quickly.

Passengers can check the status of their journeys on the Southern website.
