Schoolgirl named following fatal bus stop crash

An 11-year-old girl who died after being involved in a crash outside a village bus stop has been named by police.

Ellie Thornton, of Linfield Copse, Thakeham, suffered serious injuries following a collision on the B2139 Storrington Road on Wednesday (March 22).

She was flown to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, London, by the air ambulance.

She died in hospital yesterday (March 29).

PC Ian Foxton said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family at what is a difficult time and we would ask people to respect their privacy while they try to come to terms with what has happened.”

Police are continuing to investigate the collision and have repeated an appeal for witnesses.
