There are reports of a metal cage blocking part of a main road in Sussex today.

According to the AA, the cage is on the A27 at A277 Brighton Road (Ashcombe roundabout) near Lewes.

Traffic is coping well but motorists should approach with care.

Elsewhere roadworks, gas and electricity work, as well as burst water mains, are affecting many roads across Sussex, with temporary traffic lights in place.

There are temporary traffic signals due to construction on A268 Wish Street at A259 in Rye.

There are also temporary traffic signals due to emergency repairs to a burst water main on A268 Landgate around Military Road.

According to the AA, there are temporary traffic signals due to gas main work on the A259 Bexhill Road from Bridgeway to Bulverhythe Road in St Leonards.

There are temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on A2036 Hastings Road.

Construction work on B2093 The Ridge at Chowns Hill means there are temporary traffic lights in place. A new signalised pedestrian crossing is being installed.

Temporary traffic signals are also in place because of gas main work on the A2101 St Helens Road around St Helen’s Park Road in Hastings, as well as on St Helen’s Park Road at Fearon Road.

Elsewhere in the county there are temporary traffic signals due to a burst water main on A275 near Bineham Park Farm.

There are also temporary traffic lights in place due to electricity work on the A259 High Street at A283 Old Shoreham Road where new low voltage cables are being installed.

In Eastbourne, there are temporary traffic signals due to gas main work on Victoria Drive at Northiam Road.

Further west of the county, temporary traffic lights are in place due to construction work on Pagham Road near the post office.

There are temporary traffic signals due to gas main work on Aldwick Street near Aldwick Village Green, according to the AA.

Temporary traffic lights are also in place because of construction work on A286 Lavant Road near Flint Cottage B&B.

Restrictions are in place due to construction work on the B2237 in Worthing Road at Sainsburys Petrol Station, Horsham.
