Southern added that tickets are being accepted on Stagecoach bus 700.

A Southern spokesman said: “An operating incident has occurred at West Worthing which is causing delays of up to 60 minutes to all services through Worthing.

“There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 5pm.”

Railway users have since taken to Twitter to vent their frustration at the delay.

Xavier Harley-Rudd said: “Currently at Worthing after over an hour of sitting at this station.”
