UPDATE: Woman seriously injured after collision with telegraph pole near East Grinstead

A woman was trapped in a vehicle after it collided with a telegraph pole this morning (Friday July 18).

A police statement says that at 8.11am police were called to a road traffic collision near Ashwood Farm on West Hoathly Road. south of East Grinstead.

A Toyota Hi-Lux had collided with a telegraph pole.

Two young children in the vehicle were quickly extricated. They escaped with minor injuries but the 25-year-old woman driver was trapped in the vehicle.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended to release her from the vehicle.

The Kent Surrey and Sussex air ambulance was also in attendance.

She was flown by air ambulance to King’s College, Hospital, with serious injuries but these are not thought to be life-threatening.

The children who had been in the vehicle were treated at the East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, for minor injuries.

Sergeant Mark Bond, of the Sussex road policing unit, said: “We thank any motorists whose journeys were delayed or disrupted due to the road closure for their patience.

“With thunderstorms predicted this weekend, and overnight rain having fallen on dry roads, very often making surfaces slippery, we would urge drivers to exercise caution in the current changeable conditions.”

West Hoathly Road was closed between its junctions with Saint Hill Road and Dunnings Road while emergency services were at the scene.
