Tributes paid to Sussex Sunday Times agony aunt Sally Brampton

Many are paying tribute this morning (Wednesday, May 11) to a well-known author and Sunday Times agony aunt from Sussex who has died.

It is widely reported that Sally Brampton died after being seen walking into the sea yesterday but no official confirmation has been made by police.

The popular writer from St Leonards helped launch Elle magazine and became its editor-in-chief, wrote columns on depression and penned a book on the subject called Shoot the Damn Dog.

The award-winning journalist wrote about moving from London to St Leonards as well as her column in the Sunday Times Style magazine.

Ms Brampton wrote articles for many publications including Victoria Health who sent an email paying tribute to her to its subscribers.

Victoria Health’s Gill Sinclair said: “I am of course completely bereft, but through the tears we need to celebrate Sally’s life and achievements.”

Her fans, colleagues and friends have been taking to social media to pay tribute to Sally.

Guardian columnist Suzanne Moore said on Twitter: “Sally Brampton. An editor every writer wanted to please because she wanted the best and wrote the best herself. Very sad.”

Journalist Tony Parsons wrote: “Choked to hear that Sally Brampton has died – a great journalist, a lovely woman and as editor of ELLE UK, she gave me work when I had none.”

Clare Ollerhead tweeted: “So sad to hear Sally Brampton has died. Her book Shoot the Damn Dog was such a hugely helpful read for me and I’m sure for many others.”

Kate @kldx said: “Very sad about Sally Brampton, loved reading her work in The Times & was one of the few people who inspired me to become a psychotherapist!”
