Police were called to the scene of a two vehicle collision on the A23 dual carriageway southbound at Handcross, some 150 metres south of the Staplefield and Slaugham off-slip at last night (February 3) at 7.06pm.
A white Mitsubishi Canter towing a trailer and travelling south collided with a barrier on the central reservation.
A following white Ford Transit van then collided with the Mitsubishi. Its trailer broke away and came to rest some 200 yards south of the scene.
The Mitsubishi was being driven by a 47-year-old Croydon man who was unhurt. Also uninjured was the driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man from Addiscombe, Croydon. No-one else was hurt.
The incident led to the A23 being closed southbound. The nearside lane was reopened almost an hour later and the road was fully reopened at around 8.40pm.
