UPDATE: 1,600 homes left without power across Mid Sussex

More than 1,000 homes were left without power across Mid Sussex this morning (Monday February 8).

A fault with an underground electricity cable left 1,636 properties in the Bolnore Village area of Haywards Heath without electricity, UK Power Networks said.

The issue was first reported at around 5am.

A spokesman for the electricity provider said power was restored to all but 259 homes by 6.30am.

Engineers continued to fix the problem and the remaining homes were back on line by 10.35am.

A fallen tree brought down an overhead power line in Underhill Lane, Hassocks at around 5am this morning.

Power supplies were cut off from 16 homes in the area whilst engineers safely fixed the issue.

The work was completed by 11.50am with electricity restored to all the properties.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “We understand how difficult it is being without electricity and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
