UPDATE: Car '˜100 per cent destroyed' in A23 fire

A car was '˜100 per cent destroyed' by fire on the A23 this morning (Saturday, July 30).

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 11am to reports of a vehicle on fire.

Crews from Crawley and Haywards Heath attended the scene and used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the flames.

A fire service spokesman said the car was ‘100 per cent destroyed’ but no injuries were reported.

The incident caused long delays on the southbound carriageway between B2110 Handcross and Warninglid.
