Long delays remain between junctions 8 and 9 on the M23 after a horse was removed from the road.

Traffic was reported to be stationary near the junction with the M25 - junction seven - at around 5pm today (September 10).

Highways England closed the road in both directions between Junction 8 and 9 after it reopened temporarily.

A spokesman on Twitter said the road was closed between Gatwick and the M25 to escort the frightened horse into a horse box safely.

The @M23horse Twitter profile was created and gained eight followers during the incident.
