Update: Man due in court after Crawley town centre brawl

A man has been charged with possession of a kitchen knife following a Crawley town centre brawl.

A police spokesman said Naser Haji, 22, a clerk, of Lewes Road, brighton was due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today (Friday March 11).

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said a man was taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound to the head after officers were called to a four-man fight in Affogato ice cream parlour in The Broadway at about 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday March 10).

A man in his 20s was taken to Crawley Hospital bleeding from the head from a suspected stab wound shortly after.

Police confirmed the incident was linked to the brawl and have appealed for witnesses.

A police spokesman said the group dispersed before officers arrived.

Police cordons were put up at Affogato and near the Debra charity shop in the Broadway.

Witnesses said blood could be seen outside the charity shop this morning.

A spokesman for South Coast Ambulance Service said the man in his 20s who suffered a suspected stab wound was taken to Crawley Hospital after paramedics were called to Victoria Mews, West Green, at 2.55pm.

Haji and a 43-year-old man on suspcision of affray were arrested.

The man has been released on police bail until April 8 while enquiries continue.
