UPDATE: Man killed by train in Wivelsfield

A man was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train in Wivelsfield last night (September 24).

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Wivelsfield station shortly before 6.30pm on Wednesday, 24 September, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended. However, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

“British Transport Police is trying to identify the man and inform his family.

“We will prepare a file for the coroner.”

The incident caused major disruption to train services on the Brighton to London line.
