A police spokesman said: “Officers called in by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have not ruled out the possibility that arson may be involved.

“Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who may have other information about the incident is asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 60 of 01/11.

“Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers without having to leave their name on 0800 555 111.”

Ten fire crews from across Sussex spent 22 hours tackling the blaze.
