Blackthorns Community Primary Academy pupil, Ella Bartholomew, aged five, has won a national competition to design a Walk To School badge which will be worn by children across the country as a reward for walking, cycling or scooting to school.
Children from schools nationwide were invited to enter their badge designs, which should reflect their own journey to school for the ‘2016 Living Streets Badge Design Competition’ and Ella’s badge was selected from many other entries from Blackthorns pupils to represent the school in the competition.
Ella’s design obviously also impressed the judges of the competition, as it was selected to go into production and will be awarded to children nationwide for walking, cycling or scooting to school during December 2016.
Marianne Brand, Principal of Blackthorns Community Primary Academy in Lindfield, said: “We are all absolutely delighted for Ella. She is the first child in West Sussex ever to win this competition. Her design included recognisable features of our beautiful village of Lindfield, including the pond and the common. We are all very proud of Ella and excited that children the length and breadth of the country will be wearing a little bit of Sussex on their school uniforms.”
