Oakmeeds’ U15 girls cricket team played brilliantly to win the County Final of the Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Tournament at Hove County Cricket Ground on Thursday 19 March 2015. Their place at the Regional Final on 21 April was secured following 2 wins out of 3 games in a very competitive cricket tournament. Even better considering this is only Oakmeeds’ second season of girls’ cricket!
The tournament started with a challenging match against Bede’s School, who scored 101-4 to Oakmeeds’ 81-7. The girls didn’t lose their fighting spirit and their next match against Brighton College resulted in a win for Oakmeeds, 91-3 to Brighton College’s 87-5. It was a very close competition and all came down to the final match of the tournament, Oakmeeds v Hurstpierpoint College. Oakmeeds’ put in a great performance to beat Hurst, Oakmeeds’ 97-5 to Hurst’s 88-5. This meant Oakmeeds were the winners of the County Final and through to the Regional Final in April!
Ms Caroline Hugo, PE Teacher, supported the team at the Final and said: “The girls played fantastically, demonstrating their exceptional team spirit and support for each other. This attitude enabled the girls to excel in the competition. Well done!”
The successful team were: Chloe Clarke-Walker, Izzy Deamer, Abbie Dorgan, Emily Goss, Abi Izzard, Jess Knight, Lottie Palmer-Brown (Capt) and Ella Ward.
Congratulations to the team, their coach - Alec Hepburn, Ms Hugo and to all who have helped and supported them! We wish them all the very best at the Regional Final.
