Handcross Ladies Association: had a most enjoyable evening for their meeting earlier this month as guests of the Boules Club at their ground on the Recreation Ground. It might have been a bit windy and therefore chilly on the night but everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves from the reports I’ve heard. This is a very social and friendly group who meet once a month on the third Tuesday of the month usually in the Parish Hall. If you would like more information about them and how to go about becoming a member, get in touch with them on handxladies@gmail.com.

If you are expecting a Parish Council meeting: this evening, being the last Thursday of the month, I’m afraid you will be disappointed as the Council are on ‘holiday’ this month! The next meeting of the full council will be on Thursday, 27 September from 7.30 pm in the Pavilion on the Recreation Ground. However, the Planning Committee are due to meet earlier, usually on the first Thursday of the month but check on the website (www.slaughampc.co.uk) or have a look at the notice board outside the Spar Shop for the agenda which is usually posted there ahead of the meeting. As I have said in the past, both these meetings are open to the public and there is always an opportunity to have say on any of the items on the agenda early in the meeting. The Parish Council is made up of members of the parish, none of the members are particularly qualified to sit on the Council, all they do have is a desire to look after the parish and ensure that all our best interests are looked after and protected, such as working so hard to get a Neighbourhood Plan in place to protect the parish as a whole from overdevelopment. If you would like to know more about becoming a councillor, and I believe there is room for more members, get in touch with Sally Mclean, the Clerk to the Council by email at clerk@slaughampc.co.uk, or by phone on 01403 733881; alternatively, speak to any member of the Council and their names and contact details can be found on the website or on the back cover of the Parish News magazine, the next edition (September/October) will be through your letterbox in the next few days.
