Remembrance Sunday, 11 November: brought hundreds of people into the High Street to join the parade to the War Memorial for the service which as usual included the Two Minutes silence and the reading of the names of the 77 men whose names are recorded on the memorial, and then into Holy Trinity Church for the Remembrance Service which marked the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Mark last played for us in 2016 to a hugely enthusiastic audience so he is coming again. Saturday 17 November: 7.30 pm, Danny House, New Way Lane. Hurst/Hassocks charity reMEmber is hosting a celebration of the centenary of the Royal Air Force at Danny House. There will be an illustrated talk on the history of the RAF from Colin Cummings, former RAF officer and Chair of the RAF Historical Society. Air Vice Marshal Peter Millar will also be in attendance, and there will be an opening address from Dr William Weir, medical advisor to reMEmber. Wine and canapes will be served during the interval and there will be a grand raffle. All proceeds to help train a doctor and build a network of services to help adults and children who suffer from the long-term illness ME. Reverse Advent Calendar Scheme: Christmas is coming, but for some families it is a struggle to manage the additional demands on income. The churches and other groups in the village are organising a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ scheme again this year. Just find a box, and put an item into it every day during Advent (December 1st to December 24th) and bring it to Holy Trinity Church on 24th December, or contact me to arrange delivery. Non-perishable food (tins and packets) plus other items including toiletries, will be very welcome. See a longer article in Hurst Life for more details. The contents of the boxes will be given to two charities - Family Support Work and Off the Fence – which support people in need.
