Nigel Flude, GSL presents Wood Badge to Charlie Smith

The inaugural Bolnore Village Scout Group Fun Day started with the presentation of a Wood Badge certificate and beads to Charlie Smith, scout troop leader, by Nigel Flude, GSL.

This is a first for Bolnore scout group and a major achievement for Charlie.

The Wood Badge is a Scouting programme and award for adults in Scout associations around the world and is designed for adult Scouters to learn the skills and methods of Scouting.

On completion, participants are awarded the beads to recognise their significant achievement in leadership and direct service to young people, and to welcome them to membership of the 1st Gilwell Park Scout Group.

This is an important moment for Charlie and for the Scout Group in its short history.

Charlie has been with the group from the beginning and is the group’s longest serving uniform member.

He started off in cubs but moved to scouts to keep the troop running for over 18 months with less than 6 scouts in it and now oversees a troop of 24 scouts.

The day also included a Nerf shooting range, a raffle, BBQ and various tug of war competitions.

Thanks to amazing support from parents we were able to raise £400 as much needed funds for the Group.
