On Thursday 19th March, Southway Junior School in Burgess Hill hosted the annual Orchestra Morning. Five Burgess Hill schools joined the pupils at Southway, making a total of 130 pupils combining to play a variety of instruments.
The orchestra was made up of violins, recorders, cellos, ukuleles, steel pans, accordion, keyboards, percussion, flute, glockenspiels and guitars.
The event was co-ordinated by Mrs Moleton, Year 3 Teacher/Music Co-Ordinator at Southway who said “Pupils played a range of pieces to an exceptionally high standard. The Orchestra was conducted brilliantly by Mrs Jerome our peripatetic music teacher”.
The morning was a fantastic success and many of the pupils said what a great experience it had been, particularly playing together with so many children for the first time.
It was also an excellent example of how local schools in Burgess Hill are collaborating to provide an enriching and inclusive curriculum for the pupils.
