A sunny Tuesday morning (23rd June) saw the children of Tiggers Pre School Balcombe setting off on a Sponsored Walk around the local area.

Tiggers has it’s home in the Parish Room, which itself nestles in the heart of the Village, just next to the Recreation Ground.

The children were given sheets with images on and then asked to find the corresponding images placed in various locations along the route.

Amongst the excited chatter of the children were shouts of “squirrel” and “pigeon” as little hands reached up to point at the tall leafy trees above. The children have recently been learning about caterpillars turning in to butterflies, with their very own caterpillars to watch and marvel at, within a butterfly garden at Tiggers. There were squeals of delight as one of the children spotted a butterfly flitting past!

The walk aimed to raise much needed funds for the operating of the Charity run Pre School. The Pre School relies on a Committee of unpaid volunteers, who manage the finances and vital fundraising. The Committee are also responsible for the hiring of the dedicated staff which Tiggers have the privilege to call our own.

This team is led by Clare Clarke Jones, who has the responsibility of meeting educational and OFSTED requirements, whist providing a fun and safe place for the children to grow and flourish. Our very recent (June 2015) Ofsted inspection rated us as Ooutstanding.

Without the constant fundraising efforts Tiggers would simply not be able to function. Whist some government funding is provided in the form of grants, the vast majority of funding is met by pupil fees and fundraising events, such as today’s sponsored walk and the upcoming Balcombe fete (Sat 11th July) Julia Fairweather, member of the fundraising team says “Being involved in the running of Tiggers gives me a wonderful insight in to what my child is learning, how much the staff care about each child and their attention to individual needs.

“I feel that as I benefit from such a caring environment for my child, I can give something back by devoting some of my time to ensure it’s continuing success.” Tiggers hope to have raised in the region of £100 which will go towards the purchase of a new playhouse.

Tiggers Pre School has recently been inspected by Ofsted and has been awarded a rating of Outstanding. The staff team is lead by Clare Clarke-Jones, who is absolutely delighted with the result.

Jo Rees, Chair of the Committee at Tiggers, said “The Ofsted result is deserved recognition of all of the hard work and dedication put in by Clare and her team.

“We could not wish for a more nurturing environment for our children and are delighted that Ofsted have recognised what we have long had the privilege to appreciate at Tiggers”.
