Staplefield is gearing up for its annual Village Fête and Car Show which has been held on the picturesque village green since the 1920s on the last bank holiday Monday in May.

Attractions at the year’s event to take place between 12pm-4pm include a dog show, Maypole dancing, face painting, a coconut shy, traditional fairground rides and merry-go-round, circus skills, a creative tent and inflatable slides. ‘Owls about town’ will be back by popular demand, and the Perdito Players, a local band, will play throughout the afternoon.

There will also be a beer and Pimm’s tent, a Prosecco and strawberry stand and wonderful homemade cakes for sale at the stalls as well as at the cricket pavilion.

The vintage car show will also take place on the day, as it has every year since 1999. Vintage cars make their way to the green throughout the morning from all over the country. Last year the star of the show was a 1912 Ford Model T; the previous year visitors were treated to the sight of a rare Bugatti type 39 and Jaguar SS100.

Money raised will go towards St Mark’s Church and Primary School, the Village Hall and other worthy causes in Staplefield.
