Warden Park Academy’s U12 girls football team have won their very first football match in an important County Cup fixture, the first time an U12 team has competed in a full size match.
The Sussex FA has reformed the girls football competitions to include 3 competitions for 3 age groups. The 2014-15 season sees an u12 competition for the very first time.
For the girls’ first outing as a team, this was a tough away draw to Shoreham Academy and no-one was entirely sure what to expect. However with two exceptional players, Tia Perry and Alesha Simmons, who have represented the u13 side, Warden Park were hoping for a positive start.
Tia’s and Alesha’s match experience was a huge benefit to the team, with Tia bagging a terrific hat-trick, (her 2nd of the season) and Alesha scoring another two goals. The team played some good football and defended very solidly, particularly in the 2nd half when Warden Park were under a lot of pressure. Their resilience and determination ultimately brought them a 5-1 victory.
Girls’ football at the Academy is extremely popular and, in Year 7 alone, the school has a squad of 12 players.
