It’s been a fortnight of sporting excellence for Hurstpierpoint College pupils, winning four netball championships, three rugby championships, a county cross country competition and a hockey plate competition.
Hurst netballers won the U15 and U16 Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association (SISNA) title and the U16s were victorious just a week later in the Sussex Cup competition, as were the U13 Prep School team.
Three Hurst rugby teams won the Sussex Cup championship titles on finals day. The U13, U14 and U16 sides all played superbly at Brighton Rugby Club. On the same day, the boys’ 1st XI hockey team won the plate final in the St George’s College 6-a-side tournament. They have also reached the quarter-finals of the National Schools Hockey competition where they will face last year’s winners later this month.
In girls’ cross country, the Hurst Junior and Senior teams dominated in the recent county competition. The Seniors won the team competition with runners taking first, third and fourth places. The Junior team were also successful, taking first, third, fourth and fifth places.
Girls’ Cricket at Hurst is growing in popularity and the U15s have qualified for the country finals of the Lady Taverners’ Indoor competition to be played at the Sussex County Cricket Ground.
Rob Kift, Director of Sport at Hurst, commented, “These are fantastic achievements across the board for the school, and it is all the more to the pupils’ credit that they have excelled in their sporting achievements at a time when they are very busy with their academic studies.”
