Writer Sylvia Hansford from Burgess Hill has recently published her first novel ‘Dreaming in Stone’.
It follows the fortunes of an English family – Brian and Alison Delaney and their son Steve – who are trying to live their dream of a good life in South West France.
They planned to renovate their old house and barn as bed and breakfast accommodation. However, the place is decrepit and the family is sinking into debt.
When the Mayor puts a stop to the work, it seems the dream is over. In an attempt to stay in France, Alison goes in search of a job. She finds unexpected opportunities and hazards.
Sylvia Hansford has lived with her husband, under her married name, Sylvia Neumann, in Burgess Hill for 33 years.
However, in this novel she has drawn on her experience of owning an old house in South West France. She has been writing for nearly thirty years, but only started working on her first novel in 2011, during the course of the Creative Writing Programme at Sussex University. The book took over four years to complete.
Dreaming in Stone is available from Amazon in paperback at £6.43, and as a Kindle book at £1.99. Visit http://amzn.to/1HtBU4l
