Burgess Hill Bonfire Society needs people to help its charity collection, marshal road closures, and also clear up the fire site and roads on September 29, the day after the bonfire and fireworks night on September 28.

Potential volunteers are invited to attend a meeting at the Kings Church at 33 Victoria Road, Burgess Hill on August 31 at 7pm.

The annual parade, bonfire, and fireworks night raises money for charity; this year four charities helping children will benefit.

Although no-one pays to watch, bystanders are invited to donate generously to the on-street collections made solely to benefit the charities.

The society is hoping a good number of people step forward at the volunteers meeting to help ease the burden on existing members. The town has had a bonfire society since Victorian times, and at one time had two.

The members do their own fund-raising throughout the year to pay for the big night, and the society hopes for a good charity collection on September 28.
