Steve Andrews, incident manager for South East Water, said: “Tap water supplies should now be returning to normal for customers in Hurstpierpoint and the surrounding areas.

“We are now investigating isolated incidents of no water, which may be due airlocks as the system settles down.

“Our team has been working non-stop to fix the problem which caused further water supply problems in the area after two burst mains were repaired on Saturday.

“We are sorry to our customers in the areas affected and we know this has been a difficult time for them.

“We are putting water back into the network carefully to reduce the possibility of further bursts happening so getting back to normal may take some time.

“Our bottled water stations will remain open. The collection points are at South Downs Nursery, Brighton Road, Hassocks BN6 9LY and Kings Business Centre, Reed Lane, Sayers Common BN6 9LS.

“As water returns to customers’ taps, it may be cloudy or discoloured. This isn’t harmful and can be cleared by running the cold kitchen tap slowly until the water clears.

“Our Customer Care Team has been helping those who have signed up to our priority services register and will continue to do so until the issue is resolved fully.
