Storms cause problems in Mid Sussex

Flooding and gusting wind caused various problems in the Mid Sussex area on Friday (February 14)

Among the incidents dealt with by firefighters were:

External floodwater affecting retail store and local area roads at Jane Murray Way, Gatehouse Lane, Burgess Hill at around 2.30pm.

Water was diverted using sandbags.

Localised flooding affecting domestic property in Station Road, Cowfold at around 2.50pm.

The water pumped out.

One woman trapped in a car in fast rising deep water at 3.30pm.

Lady and car rescued and taken to safety.

Small amount of water entering domestic property in Parkside, East Grinstead at around 3.30pm.

The water was removed and drains cleared.

Water entering basement of domestic property in Lodge Lane, Keymer at around 4.30pm.

The floodwater was pumped out.

A polytunnel greenhouse was blown into trees by high winds at around 10.15pm in Leylands Road, Burgess Hill.

The polytunnel was removed from trees and area made safe by fire crews.
