THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL: is the Wivelsfield Films presentation on this coming Sunday 12th July. Now that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full up with its long-term residents, co-managers Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) and Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) have a dream of expansion, and they’ve found just the place: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Film at 7.30pm. Doors open and Bar from 7.00pm. Homemade cakes , magnum ices and drinks served before the film and during the interval. WIVELSFIELD VILLAGE DAY: is on Saturday the 18th July. The day starts with a parade leaving Wivelsfield Primary School at 9.45am and travelling along Green Road to the Village Green, where there is a main arena of events, a fun fair and a large number of stalls. After an opening ceremony at 10am there will be the Norman Hobbs sponsored Children’s Races, which begin at 10.30am. At 11.15 and back by popular demand, the Wivelsfield Little Theatre will entertain us with a performance in the village hall. This will be followed by the hilarious Alun Gedrych Ltd sponsored Pantomime Donkey Derby; a performance from the children at Turning Pointe Dance School; the hotly contested Aerial Beam Sponsored Space Hopper Donkey Derby; and the truly gladiatorial Beer Piper Sponsored Tug-of-War Competition. Don’t forget to get your entries in for both the Pantomime Donkey Derby and Tug of War. At 2.30 there will be a display by Sussex Falconry, and dog show moves into the main arena for the ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Reserve Best in Show’. We wind up the day with music from local bands. Once again we will have a village green full of side shows and stalls, Fun Fair, Bouncy castle, East Sussex Model Engineers miniature steam railway, Punch and Judy Show, Swing Boats, Bungee Trampoline, Classic Car Display, Climbing Wall and numerous stalls to help us celebrate our this year’s theme ‘Wonderful Woodland’. MORE ABOUT TRAINS ON THE BRIGHTON LINE: by Bruce Cakebread on Thursday 16th July at 8.00 pm, in Wivelsfield Village Hall RH17 7QG In 1841 the London Brighton & South Coast Railway built on the line between Haywards Heath and Brighton. Projected photographs, mainly taken in the early 1900s, will illustrate the journey starting at Haywards Heath and continue to Brighton via Lewes. Many photographs taken in the Brighton Locomotive Works will be shown. The journey will continue back to Haywards Heath via Hassocks. If time permits the Volks Railway will be included. Members £1 and non-members £2.50. Wivelsfield Historical Society aims to increase knowledge through research, talks, visits and walks to places of interest.
LUNCH BUNCH: a drop-in lunch club for mums, dads, grannies and carers every Thursday from 12 noon to 2pm, in term time, has now moved to the newly refurbished Church Hall.Enjoy a light lunch while meeting new friends and chatting to old ones. Children are welcome (but not compulsory!) and lunch will be provided for them and play-helpers are on hand to entertain them while you lunch. Cost: £3 per adult, £1 per child, babies free. You are welcome to just drop in for a cup of coffee or tea. Wivelsfield Church Hall is in Church Lane, just beyond the church and on the other side of the lane.
