WIVELSFIELD VILLAGE DAY is on the 18th July on the village green from 10am until 4.30pm.The main arena will have events from an Opening Ceremony,performed by the children from Wivelsfield Primary to a Falconry Display by Sussex Falconry. Sussex Falconry were recently on BBC’s ‘The one Show’The theme this year is ‘Wonderful Woodland’ and helping us celebrate this we have stalls from The Sussex Wildlife Trust, Conservation Foundation, Burgess Hill Green Circle, The Great-Out Tours, Creative Willow, Brighton & Lewes Beekeepers and the Badger Vaccination Trust.

New this year is a Classic Car Display with cars ranging from a 1900 Clement to a 1978 Austin Allegro, Glyn Edwards Punch and Judy Show, and for your dogs you can try the ‘Fur and Feather Gundogs’ Dog Scurry. These join old favourites; the Climbing Wall, Steam Railway, Bouncy Castle, Vintage Tractors and Tractor Rides and of course a Fun Fair! Many local Clubs and Charities will also be on the green with games from Stocks to Hook-a-Duck. For those of you who love a bit of shopping, there will be large number of stalls selling crafts and gifts. You will be guaranteed to find something you cannot buy on the High Street. For lunch you can choose one of our many food stalls on offer; some selling locally sourced products. The Wivelsfield Bonfire Society, with support from Dave & Jo at the ‘The Cock Inn’, will be happy to serve you a drink from the Beer Tent. If you’d rather have a cup of tea then in the hall our Parish Church and Hospice support Group will be more than happy to oblige. You can register your entries for the Dog Show, kindly sponsored by Mid Sussex Veterinary Clinic, at 12.30pm with the classes starting at 1.30pm. Our raffle will be drawn at 3.15 with the first prize of £100.00 kindly donated by Archer Specialist Treatments Ltd. Other prizes include £50.00 from Barnard & Brough, Family Pass to Wakehurst Place, Meal for 2 at Jeremy’s, a Day at the Races from Plumpton Racecourse, a Round of Golf for 4 from Mid Sussex Golf Club, Family Pass to Washbrooks & Monkey Bizness, Gym classes from Sussex Zest and many more.There is still time to enter The Grand Competition; an opportunity for you to get creative with photography, baking, craft and horticulture.

MORE ABOUT TRAINS ON THE BRIGHTON LINE by Bruce Cakebread on next Thursday 16th July at 8.00 pm, in Wivelsfield Village Hall RH17 7QG In 1841 the London Brighton & South Coast Railway built on the line between Haywards Heath and Brighton. Projected photographs, mainly taken in the early 1900s, will illustrate the journey starting at Haywards Heath and continue to Brighton via Lewes. Many photographs taken in the Brighton Locomotive Works will be shown. The journey will continue back to Haywards Heath via Hassocks. If time permits the Volks Railway will be included. Members £1 and non-members £2.50. Wivelsfield Historical Society aims to increase knowledge through research, talks, visits and walks to places of interest.

LUNCH BUNCH a drop-in lunch club for mums, dads, grannies and carers every Thursday from 12 noon to 2pm, in term time, has now moved to the newly refurbished Church Hall.Enjoy a light lunch while meeting new friends and chatting to old ones. Children are welcome (but not compulsory!) and lunch will be provided for them and play-helpers are on hand to entertain them while you lunch. Cost: £3 per adult, £1 per child, babies free. You are welcome to just drop in for a cup of coffee or tea. Wivelsfield Church Hall is in Church Lane, just beyond the church and on the other side of the lane.
